Blood Foundation Urges Private Sector Support for Voluntary Blood Donation

The Ghana Blood Foundation has urged the private sector to show stronger commitment to the campaign for regular voluntary blood donation in order to avoid needless deaths.

According to the Foundation, the private sector’s contribution to voluntary blood donation will make access to safe blood a reality for every Ghanaian.

It further observed that ensuring blood safety is a shared responsibility for all adding that everyone has a role to play including the government, corporate agencies and civil society groups.

“We must be committed to improving our voluntary blood collection from the current 34% to at least 50% by the end of this year (2020), ” said the Foundation in a release to commemorate World Voluntary Blood Donor Day on June 14.”

The Day is dedicated to all voluntary brood donors who have ensured that safe blood remains available.

This year’s event is themed

“Safe Blood Saves Lives” with the slogan Give Blood and Make the World a Healthier Place to Live’.

The release singed by Frank Gadzekpo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, indicated that the role of voluntary blood donors cannot be over emphazied especially at a time when countries have realized the need to improve the health of their citizens.

“Voluntary blood donation is the only way blood sufficiency can be assured, ” he said.

He thus expressed his appreciation to all voluntary blood donors for their selfless conmitment to donate blood on a regular basis even in the Covid-19 pandemic.
